Sophie Evans may not go back to School

For Sophie’s many fans, both in Wales and everywhere else, the disappointment at coming so close to winning Over The Rainbow could  be very short lived, when you start to think about the immediate opportunities that might be opening up for the talented Welsh red head. After all, If she had won, then we wouldn’t have got to see her in the Wizard of Oz in London until March or April next year.  We know that Andrew Lloyd Webber, for example, has promised to keep in touch with most of the top group of Dorothys, and stated he would have been happy with any of the final three as his leading lady.sophie-evans-dorothy

Sophie is due to return to school imminently but In the interview with BBC Wales Sophie explained that she was still considering putting her studies on hold to pursue her theatre dream with the help of Webber.:

I spoke to Andrew Lloyd Webber yesterday, and one of his friends, Bill Kenwright, who’s a casting director, and they said they’re going to look after me this year, and I just need to see what’s going to happen there, I could go back to school, but I don’t know whether I’m going to yet… perhaps I should follow my dream first.

Well, it’s not an easy decision is it? As Sophie’s age the sensible advice would usually be to get the necessary qualifications and training first, before embarking on the career in what is a very insecure business. But on the other hand, the phone might only be ringing for a few days on the back of her wonderful performance in Over The Rainbow, and this time next year will the name “Sophie Evans” be remembered by more than just the enthusiastic few?
